Tema - Foundations of Chemosynthetic Ecosystems

CBE8 welcomes contributions addressing all chemosynthetic ecosystems. We particularly encourage submissions that explore emerging research areas, interdisciplinary approaches, linkages between processes and systems, and new geographic regions. We specially encourage contributions on microbial diversity and taxonomy, environmental DNA approaches, ‘omics-based research, experimental or comparative ecological and evolutionary studies, as well as societal-related issues.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following theme sessions:
1) Foundations of Chemosynthetic Ecosystems: How do chemosynthetic ecosystems form and persist? What physical, chemical, and geological drivers structure them?
2) Evolutionary Origins and Adaptive Strategies: How have chemosynthetic organisms and communities evolved? What innovations enable life in extreme chemical settings? New data from the fossil record, taxonomy and systematics are welcome.
3) Community Assembly, Structure, and Dynamics: What governs what lives where, when, and how in chemosynthetic ecosystems from the subseafloor to the pelagic, from deep to coastal environments?
4) Symbiosis, Metabolism, and Energy Flow: How is energy captured, transferred, and partitioned in chemosynthetic ecosystems?
5) Biogeography and Connectivity: How are chemosynthetic ecosystems distributed across the planet, what are their biogeographic patterns and how connected are they?
6) Resilience, Change, and Anthropogenic Impacts: How do chemosynthetic ecosystems respond to natural and human-mediated environmental change?
7) Conservation, Policy, and Societal Relevance: Why should society care about chemosynthetic ecosystems, and how can they be protected and valued?
Researchers at all career stages, including students and early-career scientists, are warmly invited to participate and share their work. The symposium aims to stimulate scientific discussion, foster collaborations across disciplines, and advance our understanding of chemosynthesis-based ecosystems and their role in the Earth system.
Researchers shall submit Only one abstract for one of the proposed topics, stating the desired format (we will try to accommodate, but there is a chance of changing formats)
As an exception to single submissions, we will also have a special session where researchers can submit an extra abstract for a poster presentation.
Special Session: Technology and Methods Innovation
A dedicated poster and discussion session will highlight new technologies and methodological developments, including advanced sampling systems, imaging techniques, innovative omics approaches, in situ sensors, and autonomous or remotely operated platforms. Contributions demonstrating innovative tools or interdisciplinary methods are especially encouraged.
